What does "굳이" mean?
- Korean
- 2020. 2. 29.
When people do something that is unnecessary but still does it, "굳이" is used to emphasize that verb.
So it's used with a verb. (ofc, it's an adverb)
#1. It can be sarcastic(like scolding) e.g. 너 왜 잘 자고 있는 애를 굳이 건드려 깨우니?
#2. It can just emphasize an act (it seems a bit poetic, usually used in written language) e.g.할머니는 굳이 내 손에 그 돈을 쥐어 주셨다.
#3. IMO in spoken Korean #1 is way much more used in real life. like somebody said mean words to you two times. Then you can say 굳이 두 번이나 말했어야 돼?!
Always feel free to ask any questions!

Koreans do not use "-씨"(to call names) that much irl. When to call 언니 or 오빠? It's not rude! (0) | 2020.02.29 |
